How percentage concentration works


Percentage concentration expresses how much solute is present relative to the total solution. The formula is:

concentration (%) = (solute / total solution) × 100

Example: 15 grams of salt dissolved into 250 grams of total solution concentration = (15 / 250) × 100 = 6%

To get an accurate percentage, always use the same units for both values — grams with grams, or milliliters with milliliters. Mixing units (e.g., grams with mL) only works if the density is known.
